Without officials, it is just recess

Hammer Sports LLC is a sports assigning business. Heidi, Hammer Sports owner, assigns referees/umpires for games throughout the state of Minnesota, most being in the metro area. Hammer Sports was established in the fall 2015 after Independent Officials (IOA) decided to not assign anymore and handed over all assigning responsibilities. Hammer Sports assigns various levels (youth, middle school, high school, adult) of the following sports: baseball, basketball, fastpitch, football, slowpitch softball, soccer, and volleyball. There are nearly 400 officials working for Hammer Sports and that number is growing everyday.

Heidi grew up in Kimball, MN and was a three sport athlete (volleyball, basketball, softball). Upon graduating, she played basketball at the College of Saint Benedict and in her senior year, she had the opportunity to play in the Final Four coming up short in the National Championship game. Heidi earned a teaching degree in Physical Education, Health, and DAPE, with a coaching minor.

Heidi met Brenda Holmgren, a college basketball referee who worked many of her Blazer games, during a summer camp. Brenda encouraged her to give officiating a try once her playing days were over. In 2000, Heidi decided to become a basketball official and has never looked back. Officiating has become a true passion. Heidi also officiates volleyball, soccer, softball, and girls lacrosse. She has worked several playoff games, including the high school basketball state tourney and some college.

Heidi started a nonprofit called Roll With It in 2003, which is an adapted sports program that offered wheelchair basketball, archery, skiing, hunting, soccer and bowling. She has since stepped down as Director to focus on her business and officiating career.

In the summer of 2015, Heidi was given the opportunity to take over for another sports assigner (IOA), thus creating Hammer Sports. She absolutely loves assigning! She takes pride in recruiting new officials and providing them training/guidance to become successful at doing it. This is what she is meant to do and will continue to work hard and make Hammer Sports even better.

Donna's son, Jake, used to play wheelchair basketball for Heidi for several years. She has stayed very involved in helping sports officials succeed in their work. Her role with Hammer Sports is the accounting end of things. She ensures that schools are properly invoiced, she oversees an accurate paying process for all the refs and handles QuickBooks for the Hammer Sports LLC.
