400 fail Makerere mature age entry exams

More than half of the students who sat last year’s Makerere University Mature Age Entry examinations have failed.

Out of the 746 students who did the tests in December on either the science or arts programme, 309 students (41 per cent) passed the exams while 437(59 per cent) failed.

The science students performed better than their arts counterparts.

According to the results released yesterday, out of 510 who sat for the sciences programmes, only 238 passed the exams.

Of 236 students who sat for the arts programmes, only 71 passed.

According to the university’s academic registrar, Mr Alfred Masikye, those students who scored 50 per cent and more qualify to join the university in various courses.
