Government Denies Taxing Bibles, Korans
The state Minister for Finance, Bahati David has said Government does not have any plans of taxing Bibles and Korans as it was recently reported by some national papers.
Bahati said church leaders summoned some political leaders to explain why Government would consider taxing the holly books as read by some national papers.
Bahati said he doesn’t know why media keeps bringing up this story and yet it is entirely false.
The state Minister also clarified on a misconception held by most Ugandans that politicians are exempting themselves from taxes, which he says is not quite true.
According to him, Parliament only exempted allowances and this was done in the know of the public through the right procedures.
