Furious Kadaga Orders Auditor General to Audit BoU
The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has insisted the Auditor General must undertake a specialized audit of Bank of Uganda as directed by the House.
The instructions follow protests by BoU Deputy Governor Louis Kasekende and the Solicitor General’s claims that the audit into the central bank’s operations and sale of Crane Bank would be prejudicial.
The Solicitor General, Mr Francis Atoke also wrote to the BoU Governor on May 2 directing the central bank not to cooperate with either the Auditor General or Parliament on the matter as the matter was before courts of law.
But in a fiery response, Kadaga told Auditor General John Muwanga that the request from the Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities & State Enterprises (COSASE) was premised o the finding by that committee that there has never been any report by Bank of Uganda on the defunct banks; names Teefe Banks, Greenland Bank, International Credit Bank, Cooperative Bank, National Bank of Commerce, Global Trust Bank and Crane Bank.
