UCC to start monitoring mobile phones by March

The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) will start monitoring all mobile phones by March.

According to the UCC spokesperson, Mr Fred Otunu, the move is intended to fight cybercrime and detect fake phones on the network across the country.

Mr Otunu said UCC has already created a Centralized Equipment Identity Register system to automatically monitor and oversee mobile phones in both public and private sectors.

He said UCC delayed to start monitoring mobile phones due to lack of an enabling law.
