COPENHAGEN, DENMARK | H.E. Ambassador Margaret M. Ottestov, Head of Mission, led a high-level technical delegation from Uganda’s Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Denmark to explore areas of strategic cooperation and investment between Uganda and Denmark.
Key areas of discussion included cooperation on strategic infrastructure, health, agro-industrialisation, environmental protection, emergency response and the Blue Economy.
Among the projects presented was the proposed agro-industrialisation programme for the Uganda Prisons Service, with an estimated value of EUR 70 million. Uganda is pursuing financing through the Export and Investment Fund of Denmark (EIFO), alongside Uganda–Denmark government-to-government cooperation.
The two sides also discussed Oil Spill Preparedness and Environmental Response on Lake Victoria, particularly as Uganda advances towards oil production. The cooperation would strengthen preparedness and response mechanisms for environmental risks while supporting sustainable management of the lake’s resources.
Discussions further covered opportunities in the Blue Economy, including aquaculture, as well as cooperation in fire prevention and rescue services. Uganda is exploring a national programme to modernise fire prevention and rescue services across its cities. Denmark has proposed exploring selected investments through government-to-government cooperation, with an indicative investment framework of EUR 50–70 million, subject to feasibility studies and prioritisation.
The delegation also explored cooperation in the health sector, particularly the proposed upgrading of Wakiso Health Centre IV into a modern 300-bed public general hospital. The initiative seeks to respond to rapid population growth and existing gaps in health infrastructure in Wakiso District. The indicative investment is estimated at EUR 120–140 million.
The engagements underscore the growing Uganda–Denmark partnership and the shared interest in developing practical, sustainable investments that support Uganda’s infrastructure development, economic transformation, public services and environmental resilience.
